by Scott Stroman and Fabrice Perrier, Eclectic Voices join the Cercle
Philharmonique de Chambery for an exciting concert of the best of
French and English choral music from the last century. The programme includes Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb and Five Flower Songs, selections from Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Poulenc's Vinea Mea Electa, Liberté from Figure Humaine, and selections from Huit Chansons Francais. The London choir Eclectic Voices performs a wide range of music – classical, contemporary, ethnic and world music, gospel, spirituals and jazz – under founding director Scott Stroman. Eclectic Voices has appeared at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Room, Barbican Hall, Sadler’s Wells, St John’s Smith Square, St James’s Piccadilly, Vortex Jazz Club, St Paul’s, Covent Garden and its home base of Christ Church, Highbury, as well as throughout the UK and Europe. Its most recent performance of Handel’s Messiah received a standing ovation. Eclectic Voices has recorded 4 CDs: Songs of the Spirit, Canticles and Carols, I Was There When the Spirit Came (with gospel singer L. D. Frazier) and Scott Stroman’s Jazz Mass. A CD of Stroman’s Songs of Life and Liberty and Shakespeare Songs was released in 2009. Cercle Philharmonique de Chambery sings a variety of classical works under professional direction and with professional musicians. Last season the choir celebrated its 90th anniversary.
