Eclectic Voices has two sections, the Performing Choir led by Scott
Stroman, and
the children's choir, Highbury Young Singers (junior and
senior) (directed by Sarah Wilkinson) which has its
own performance schedule and joins the adult choir for some
concerts too.
The
repertoire is, as the name suggests, eclectic, with a typical
season's work including classical choral music, jazz, gospel, and
world music.
The
choir regularly perfoms at Christ Church, Highbury, where we rehearse,
and in Central London at St Paul's, Covent Garden and St James,
Piccadilly.
In addition we have performed at London's Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall
(with the London Philharmonic Orchestra), Barbican Centre and
Sadler's Wells. The choir has
appeared on BBC TV's 'Songs of Praise', and has enjoyed frequent
collaborations in workshops, concerts and recordings with jazz
pianist & educator Pete Churchill, New York gospel singer L D
Frazier, and many others. The choir has travelled to Germany
where it enjoyed a collaboration with Klaus Brecht and choir
Tritonus. During 2005 the choir worked in Fossano, Italy, and
more recently the Gospel meets Jazz
festival in Schorndorf, Germany. In 2008 the choir visited La Coruna,
Spain, and performed with local singers and musicians in a series of
events.
