Highbury Young Choir was founded (as Highbury Young Singers) in 1996 by Sarah Wilkinson and Scott Stroman as the youth choir of Eclectic Voices, to provide opportunities for children and young people to perform with professional musicians in a wide range of styles. The Choir has performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Union Chapel, St Paul's Covent Garden and has recorded at Air Studios for Children in Need, and mounted productions of Pete Churchill's David & Goliath and The Little Sweep by Britten.
Over the last five years, the choir has also formed the youth chorus of Highbury Opera Theatre, appearing in Britten's Noye’s Fludde (2013), Jonathan Dove's Tobias and the Angel (2013), Kurt Weill's Lost in the Stars (2016), and premieres of Scott Stroman's As You Like It (2014) and Fever Pitch (2017)
We now run three choirs for young people: Highbury Young Singers (Years 1-3), Highbury Junior Choir (Years 4-6) and Highbury Youth Choir (Years 6-13). Members are drawn from all over North London, coming together on Thursday afternoons to receive high quality choral training and to enjoy making music together.
The choirs are directed by youth choir specialists Sarah Wilkinson and Helen Smee. Our aim is to promote a life-long love of singing and live performance and a passion for music of all genres.
